Notes from Windward: #67

From our Way-Back Machine

Lindsay finds a pic of the wheat that was

Back in the mid-80's when we were researching the question of where we wanted to settle for the long haul, one of the reasons why we chose this location was the incredible food surplus produced here--a point that was driven home most visibly by the following picture.

That year the wheat crop was such that both the Centerville and Goldendale silos were full, and the wheat just kept coming. So, in order to arrage temporary storage, they started piling it on the ground next to the silos under a circus-tent like tarp. It would be fair to say that this picture went a long way towards convincing us that this was a good place to settle.

[and a special thanks to Todd for scanning in the two pics and Photoshopping them together]
