Coming from the west (Portland, OR for example), you have two options. You can take Highway 14 on the Washington side of the Columbia, or I-84 on the Oregon side. Either way, it's a beautiful drive through the Columbia River Gorge. If you're taking Highway 14, you can skip the I-84/Hood River info by clicking HERE

I generally recommend that people take the interstate since it's quick and offers some beautiful attractions such as Multnomah Falls at Milepost 32.

When you get to Hood River, take exit 64

Here's a close up of the exit sign.

The off ramp ends at a "T" intersection.
Turn left under the interstate.

Proceed through the 4-way stop towards the toll booth.
The toll for a passenger car is $0.75 USD.

After you cross over the Columbia river,
you'll come to another "T" intersection.
Turn right (east) onto Highway 14.

After you pass through Bingen, continue east along the river for 9 miles.
Just before you enter the town of Lyle,
you'll cross the Klickitat River.

Just after the bridge,
turn left onto Highway 142.

Continue along the Klickitat river, passing through the town of Klickitat.

After you pass Mile Post 16,
go another half mile, and ...

Turn left onto Wahkiacus Heights Road
[pronounced Wah-ki-a-cus]

There are two signs to note.
The Woodruff Mill sign is visible from Highway 142...,

and as you make the turn,
you'll see the first Windward sign.

Proceed on up Wahkiacus Heights Road for three miles.
It's steep in places, but it does offer some great views.
Watch for downhill traffic.

Turn left onto Long Road.

Note the Windward sign.

Now, you'll go up a rise
and back down the other side,
a quarter mile in all.

Then, turn right onto Windward Lane

Note the Windward sign

Follow Windward Lane in for half a mile,
and you're here.
